SPL5000: COURSE DESCRIPTION

“The leadership of Christ’s church was always meant to incorporate the prophet’s role into a diverse blend of spiritual gifts and a multifaceted leadership environment.  Furthermore, scripture indicates that essential to the establishing of foundations in the New Testament church are both functions of the apostle and prophet (Eph.2:21).  The prophet, stands alongside the apostle, and works in harmony with evangelists, pastors, and teachers, to administer senior level leadership.” Rev. Kathleen Verna (prophet-pastor)

This course examines the officeholder functions of the prophetic leader in modern church practice. The focus is less on the gift of prophecy and more on the implementation of the prophetic office.  We will explore the protocol, standards, professional ethics and ministerial engagement of the prophet. Students will develop an understanding of the prophetic role within a Church\Kingdom\leadership model; looking at how prophets engage current leadership and power structures. We will use biblical examples such as Nathan, Samuel and Agabus as models. The course provides an examination of conflicts: internal conflicts and external conflicts, that exist in the administration of the prophetic office.

We will look at roles, styles, and forms of prophetic officeholders to encourage:

  • Building Prophetic team within a church and outside of a church
  • Engaging with organizational Structural Change
  • Engaging with values change
  • The Prophet as Pastor, Executive pastor and interacting with pastors
  • Being a prophet in a non-prophetic church
  • Healthiness of the prophet

Saturday Seminars will investigate the following broad topics (subject to modifications):

  • Seminar 1: Understanding the Office vs. the Gift of the Prophet
  • Seminar 2: Protocol, Standards and Professional Ethics and Personal and Ministerial Commitments of the Prophet
  • Seminar 3: Prophetic Office among the New Testament Leadership Mosaic. Dealing with the challenges and conflicts of the office.
